What information can I get from this site?

This website presents flood modelling data from a study commissioned by the former Johnstone Shire Council in 2002. The study used a digital elevation model to predict the impact of a range of flood events in the Johnstone River basin.

You can access this information by:

  • Selecting a parcel. This can be done in one of two ways:
    • 1. Using the search tools to the left of the map, search for a particular address. Then, click on the location within the results panel.
    • Flood Report2. Navigate the map until the desired parcel is visible. Then, select the "Flood Report" button, and click on the parcel
  • Once you have selected a parcel, select the "Print Flood Report" option at the bottom of the information panel
  • A one page PDF document will be created showing the subject parcel, and listing the predicted impact for each modelled flood event
  • You can also use the interactive map tools to view and print maps of any area of interest

Selecting map layers

Flood level details may be superimposed over the top of the base map.

Layer ButtonTo open the layer selection pane, click on the layer button in the toolbar

Layers Selection Through the layer selection pane, you may superimpose one of the seven available flood layers from the Lower Johnstone River Study, or four available flood layers from the Tully-Murray Rivers and Meunga Creek Study. Each flood layer represents a possible different severity flood. The flood layers are coloured to match the Innisfail totem poles.

The interactive map

You can control the map using the following tools

  • Grab and drag Position the map by dragging the map with the cursor. To do this, select the pan tool in the toolbar, move the mouse onto the map, press and hold the left mouse button and move the mouse.
  • Map Zoom Change the map scale using the Zoom In or Zoom Out tool. Clicking will zoom in or out, centred on the spot that was clicked. Alternatively, drag a box with the zoom in tool to zoom to the extents of the box. The map scale is also adjusted automatically when a search result is selected.

Searching

You can type a search term into the text box in the left margin of the map page, and press Enter (or click GO) to start your search. You can enter any of the the following search terms.

Search results are listed beneath the search box. Click on any of the results to zoom to that feature on the map.

Printing

Print Pane You can generate printable maps of the current map window by clicking on the printer icon, located at the bottom of the information pane, to the left of the map.

When you click on the printer icon, a PDF map will load in a new window. Map generation takes a little while, so be patient. Adobe PDF files are used for printing because they provide high quality map reproduction on a wide range of printers.

You must have Adobe Reader installed to view and print a PDF map.

Map Scales and Printing

The maps printed from this application include a scale bar, not an absolute scale ratio (eg 1:5000). This ensures the scale will remain accurate regardless of any rescaling that may happen before or during printing.
